Many Americans have a goal of living, studying, or traveling in Mexico, yet they don't grasp the distinct Mexican Spanish which differs from that of Spain. As opposed to Spain, Mexico uses "ustedes" in place of "vosotros", and the preterite instead of the past participle. Mexican Spanish doesn't have the same lisp found in Spain and the accents of words are in different places. In "video", the stress is placed on the "i". Mexican Spanish has a big influence on its slang too given its proximity to the large nation. "¡Aguas!" is an expression such as "careful!". "padre" is the Mexican way of saying "cool", and "¡órale!" means "let's do it!".
