Due to the small land area of Guatemala, pronunciation remains consistent throughout the nation. One tendency to note is that "y" sounds and "ll" sounds are pronounced identically. There is typically no lisp, and sounds are rarely omitted in words. On top of that, Guatemalans maintain a slow and steady rhythm easy for beginners to understand. This dialect also adheres to Seseo, in which "z", "s", and "c" are all pronounced like an "s". With Mayan roots, Guatemala has an abnormal tradition of pronouncing "x" as a "sh" sound when the consonant begins words. Lastly, the prefix "hue" in words like "huevo" takes on more of a "güe" sound. Some slang terms are "a huevos" meaning absolutely, "aguas", meaning "be careful", and "boquitas" simply meaning "snacks".
